Tom and I took a little walk around the hospital to stretch our legs and relieve our stress. Suddenly a man in a long white coat stopped and pointed at us. Turns out it was Dr. Christian who had just come from reporting to Eric that his part of the surgery, the mastectomy, went very smoothly. He graciously took the time to go over it all again for us, answering all my questions. One of the most important bits of information is that the sentinel lymph node biopsy was cancer free, indicating that the cancer had not spread to other parts of the body. I couldn't contain myself and gave him a big hug. He seemed pleased and told me he liked hugs. Me, too.
The plastic surgeon, Dr. Stephanie Caterson, was already underway with the long reconstruction process before Dr. Christian left the O.R. We still have hours to wait, but it is a huge relief to be over the first hump. Kelly made us promise to make notes of all information we received so that she can review it all later. Talk about not wanting to miss a single detail. She comes by it well, I suppose.
Seems that many of you are following the CaringBridge site closely for Eric's updates. For you, this is redundant. For those who are following my blog only, I am thrilled to pass along this little ray of sunshine.
Keep those prayers coming.
